Synopsis: A short film composed of brief moments from a visit home to Honduras in December of 2014. Seremein III was filmed in San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, Mañali, Trujillo, and Sambo Creek, Honduras.
Bio: Born in Los Angeles and raised in Long Beach, California Rajan Hoyle began documenting his Afro-indigenous, Garifuna culture during his first visit to Honduras at the age of seven. Since then he has traveled extensively through various Garinagu communities in Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Belize hearing first-hand communal narratives of struggle and victory. As a creative, Rajan is passionate about the multimedia telling of his stories and those of others. This is his festival debut.
ABDUL MARIN NUNEZ AND THE BELIZE GANG CRISIS (28 Min SHORT ) by Bilal Morris
Synopsis: The Belize gang crisis has exploded into exponential proportions, taking the lives of Belize’s young black men (Garifuna & Creole).
The plight has spread from Belize City across the underlining villages and into the Southern cities of Dangriga and Punta Gorda . At the center of this crisis is a Belizean Garifuna activist & social worker who has single handedly created gang intervention programs in Belize city as means of decreasing the trauma on Belize Cities children by this urban violence warfare
This documentary short chosen the work of Nunez’s work in gang intervention with students in the primary & high schools of Dangriga and Punta Gorda.
