The Garifuna International Film Festival exhibits work from independent storytellers from the Garifuna culture as well as the wider cultural diaspora. Our programming reflects a variety of tastes and backgrounds. We are inspired by filmmakers committed to building audiences for stories that reflect the many indigenous cultures of our world








Yes, but we will also accept relevant documentaries and films that have been screened previously, as long as they speak to the mission of the festival.












We seek compelling documentaries that speaks to the heart of cultures from which the documentary originates.














We accept stories from and about global indigenous cultures that embrace cultural preservation. These include; language, music, dance, spirituality, storytelling, fashion, etc

















These can be emerging and established stories about global indigenous cultures in short film form




















We accept videos that educate and inform our audience about global indigenous cultures through music
























Please let us know beforehand If you have received an invitation (or if your film has been featured as a World Premiere) to another film festival.




























GIFF’S mission is to support indigenous cultures in all forms, however films with explicit subject matter or extreme violence that are not relevant to our mission statement may not be accepted
































We will make every effort to play your film but it is your responsibility to ensure your film plays all the way through and is audible. Please be sure that your submission works BEFORE you send it to us.





































You are able to submit as many film/documentaries that are relevant to indigenous cultures







































We prefer HD downloadable format but will accept a DVD if necessary












































You will be informed that your film or documentary has been chosen at the beginning of the year (after it has been screened by our official panel of judges).
